Following the Christmas Eve passage of the Senate Democrats’ health care reform bill, Harry Reid said, “This vote brings us one step closer to making Ted Kennedy’s dream a reality.” Many Americans would contrastingly characterize the potential passage and implementation of this legislation as more of a nightmare. But one thing on which both critics and supporters of ObamaCare may be able to agree is that invoking the name of the late senator from Massachusetts in connection with the passage of a piece of legislation as incompatible with free-market principles and notions of individual liberty as ObamaCare is altogether fitting and proper.
While campaigning against Kennedy in the spring of 1980, then-President Jimmy Carter stated that “Senator Kennedy is well known as the largest spender perhaps in the history of the United States Senate.” Though Carter’s statement was made thirty years ago and nearly three decades prior to Kennedy’s death, it is hard to improve on it in describing Kennedy’s affinity for big government.
According to the National Taxpayers Union’s BillTally, which tracks the amount of spending proposed by members of Congress via the bills they sponsor or cosponsor, no one serving for more than two years in the Senate from 2001 to 2008 proposed more spending than Ted Kennedy. During those dreaded “last eight years,” no senator was more willing to part with the generous — though involuntary — donations of American taxpayers to the U.S. Treasury than Kennedy.

Hannity and "Great American" panelists fearmonger about Jennings "indoctrinating" children, "promoting homosexuality"

Quinn:"[T]the last time I checked, two guys doing the bone dance with Mr. Sphincter was not going to produce the next generation of children"
Robertson: Many "made homosexual because of a coach or a guidance counselor or some other male figure who has abused them"
O'Reilly again claims that if gay marriage was legalized, "you could have married a duck"
Pat Robertson suggests "ultimate conclusion" of legal same-sex marriage is legal polygamy, bestiality, child molestation, pedophilia

More Obama 'associates'

This past Saturday witnessed the passing of 89-year-old Percy Sutton, a former Manhattan Borough president and, in his day, the most powerful black politician in New York.
Although all the major media have reported his death, usually in some detail, none has made any mention of Sutton's most recent and inconvenient brush with the news, what might profitably be called "Suttongate."
How Suttongate came to be spiked, when it had the potential to undo the Obama candidacy in September 2008, is a story worth relating.
The story begins on March 25, 2008, when Sutton was interviewed by Dominic Carter on his local NY1 TV show.
When asked about Obama, Sutton answered, "I was introduced to him by a friend." Sutton named the friend as "Dr. Khalid al-Mansour," whom he described as "the principal adviser to one of the world's richest men."
The rich man in question was Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal. More on him shortly.
As Sutton related, al-Mansour asked him in 1988 to "please write a letter in support of [Obama] ... a young man that has applied to Harvard."
Mansour reportedly knew that Sutton had friends at Harvard, and Sutton claims to have gladly written a letter in Obama's support.
There would be nothing terribly controversial about any of this were Mansour the kind of person a presidential candidate ought to pal around with.
Al-Mansour is no such person. Born "Donald Warden," al-Mansour is an anti-Semitic, anti-white whack job attorney who has claimed, among other things, that America is plotting a "second genocide" in order to "remove 15 million black people, considered disposable, of no relevance, value or benefit to the American society."
That much said, al-Mansour is influential beyond all good sense. He has sat on any number of corporate boards, including the Saudi African Bank and Chicago-based LaGray Chemical Co., and in 1995 he organized a Clinton White House tribute to the president of Ghana along with the late Michael Jackson.
Although 88 years of age at the time of his NY1 interview, Sutton spoke clearly and lucidly about al-Mansour, and what he said made perfect sense.

Did Saddam Hussein's fall and the formation of a fledging democracy in Iraq encourage and embolden regime-threatening dissent in Iran?
The anti-Iraq War crowd, many of whom suffer from Give-George-W.-Bush-No Credit-for-Anything Disease, says, "No, of course not." How dare anyone even suggest that the former president was correct, if not about the rightfulness of the war itself, then about his argument that a "free and peaceful" Iraq would provide a "dramatic and inspiring example" to the Middle East and the Muslim world. Good Lord!
The Iraq War-achieved-zero crowd begrudged Bush nothing even after the democratic Cedar Revolution in Lebanon. Never mind that Walid Jumblatt, a Lebanese Druze Muslim leader, said: "It's strange for me to say it, but this process of change has started because of the American invasion of Iraq. I was cynical about Iraq. But when I saw the Iraqi people voting (in 2005), 8 million of them, it was the start of a new Arab world."
As to Iran, the New York Times quoted a pundit-blogger who, when protests began this past summer, wrote, "(N)o Iranian ... has mentioned Iraq as an inspiration for the demonstrations, nor has any leader of their opposition cited their Iraqi neighbors as a model or a source of guidance."

Meet Mohsen Kadivar. In May 2004, Time magazine profiled this Iranian intellectual in a flattering article called "The Critical Cleric – Reclaiming Islam for a New World." Newsweek called him a global leader "to watch in 2005." His criticism of the Iranian regime landed him in jail. He now teaches at Duke University, and PBS' Charlie Rose interviewed him in July.
What does this cleric says about Iraq's possible influence on his native country? In February 2005, he said: "I think the Iraqis can make what we wanted to create but were unsuccessful: a real Islamic Republic. By that I mean a republic with Islamic values, democracy with Islamic values ... (where) the clergy has no special rights. If they have a good government with Islamic democracy and without any special or divine rights for the clergy, the Iranian government won't be able to justify its situation to the Iranian citizens."
Meet Mashallah Shamsolvaezin. In 2000, this Iranian journalist received an International Press Freedom Award but could not attend the formal dinner honoring him. Shamsolvaezin was then sitting in a Tehran prison for the crime of "insulting Islamic values." The authorities shut down several publications he edited. Larry Magid at CNET reports that users of Adobe Systems (such as Adobe Flash and the omnipresent Adobe Reader) likely also will be targeted, and that the introduction of Google's "Chrome" browser provides yet another new window of vulnerability. (The report says that exploits targeting Adobe programs will "become the preferred targets for criminal hackers ... surpassing Microsoft Office applications.") McAfee's doomsaying goes on to predict smarter, more dangerous trojan viruses and malware like the "Koobface" virus that spreads among Facebook users' friends lists. The most commonsense measures that would require our government to do a more effective job of administering the program by which our government provides aliens with visas to enter the United States and make certain that credible information concerning terror suspects is transmitted quickly to appropriate personnel is still not being done.
What is particularly disturbing about all of this is the simple fact that the 9/11 Commission identified visa fraud and immigration benefit fraud as major areas of concern where the entry and embedding of terrorists in our country are involved, yet virtually nothing has been done to address these major holes in the fence that is supposed to keep those individuals out of our country who are determined to do us such harm!
Yesterday, Janet Napolitano had the chutzpah to make the assertion that the system had worked the way it should! She focused on the fact that after the terrorist attempted to destroy the airliner as it prepared to land in Detroit, that notification was sent to other airliners heading for the United States. The fact that the airliner landed safely and no one, other than the terrorist was injured was not attributable to the actions of our government's officials but rather to the whims of fate- the bomb failed to properly detonate!
It has been said that "Hope is not a strategy" I would add that "Dumb luck is not a success!"
The news has now reported that in order to combat future attempts of terrorists to destroy airliners as they prepare to land in the United States, passengers will not be allowed to get out of their seats for one hour prior to landing. The global vision of Barack Obama

''It is the experience of most of us that nothing happens by accident in politics and government and when something happens it was planned to happen.''

At the UN conference in September Barack Obama stated that the United States won’t solve the world’s problems and that we needed "…a new era of engagement with the world. Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."
This speech stuck in my mind as familiar to other research I had done a couple of years ago. Then I remembered a very similar set of goals issued by the UN in what it called the Millennium Project or the Millennium Development Goals. I remember this because some friends and I, after hearing Candidate Obama speech on global poverty, discussed the need to focus on America before we can fix the world.
So I started looking up my data on the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and I started to wonder just whose agenda was being sought here, that of the ambitious young Senator or the global governance seeking UN.
Here is the MDG list taken directly from their website:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger2. Achieve universal primary education3. promote gender equality and empower women4. Reduce child mortality5. Improve maternal health6. Combat HIV/AIDS7. Ensure Environmental Sustainability8. Develop a global partnership for development.
Notice a striking similarity to the goals of the President. Now to be fair Obama ran on more than just these items but the odds of a coincidence that he would support as his platform to “fundamentally change America” with every goal of the MDG pales beyond the coincidental.

New Year's resolutions and the good fight

I will never miss another election.
I will never vote for a candidate whose stand on the issues I do not know, nor will I vote to re-elect an incumbent whose record I do not know. I will simply leave the box beside that office blank.
I will never vote for a ballot proposition that I do not fully understand.
I will not beat up on myself for the votes I failed to cast. Instead, I will give myself a pat on the back for every intelligent vote I make.
I will begin now to prepare for the 2010 election by making a list of the issues that are important to me and my family.
I will find out how my elected representatives have voted on the moral issues, knowing that the ones who have voted right on those issues very likely voted right on the other issues as well.
I will find out how my elected representatives handled my money by checking their records with the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, Citizens Against Government Waste and similar groups.
I will not vote to re-elect anyone who backs measures that will increase our national debt. I must balance my budget, and I expect my representatives at the local, state and national levels to do the same.

The reason I consider this to be vitally important is because by the time Americans find themselves saying, "My God, what have we done?" – it will be far too late. At that juncture, mentioning God, even in private, may not be the most prudent move, either.
The dream of global communism did not die with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the fall of the Berlin Wall or The People's Republic of China adopting aspects of capitalism. As we now know, American communists have been quietly working, though in earnest, since the Bolsheviks gained power in Russia, toward a similar revolution in the United States. Despite a popular swing toward the right in America during the 1980s and mid 1990s, those factions have been in high gear since the civil-rights movement.
As of now, they are operating in the open; all that remains, truly, is for them to lay claim to the brand "communist."

For the past eight years, approximately 2 million Americans a day have been subjected to humiliating searches at airport security checkpoints, forced to remove their shoes and jackets, to open their computers, and to remove all liquids from their carry-on bags, except minuscule amounts in marked 3-ounce containers placed in Ziploc plastic bags – folding sandwich bags are verboten – among other indignities.

CAIR: A Terrorist Co-Conspirator

May 15: Gallup releases a poll showing that for the first time since it began asking the question in 1995, a 51 percent majority of Americans consider themselves "pro-life" as opposed to 42 percent "pro-choice." Gallup credits Obama for the shift, in part: "It is possible that, through his abortion policies, Obama has pushed the public's understanding of what it means to be 'pro-choice' slightly to the left, politically. While Democrats may support that… it may be driving others in the opposite direction."
May 17: President Obama speaks at Notre Dame University's commencement and is bestowed an honorary doctorate degree. The magnitude of protest incited by university president Father John Jenkins' invitation surprises just about everyone. Protestant pro-lifers join Catholics in strident opposition that includes billboard signs, an "abortion plane" and busloads of protesters. Eighty-eight are arrested.

Modern-day lunacy on Capitol Hill

Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Health Care, and Rep. Joe Courtney D-Conn., a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, have introduced the Pre-existing Condition Patient Protection Act, which would eliminate pre-existing condition exclusions in all insurance markets. That's an Obama administration priority. I wonder whether President Obama and his congressional supporters would go a step further and protect not just patients but everyone against pre-existing condition exclusions by insurance companies. Let's look at the benefits of such a law.
A person might save quite a bit of money on fire insurance. He could wait until his home is ablaze and then walk into Nationwide and say, "Sell me a fire insurance policy so I can have my house repaired." The Nationwide salesman says, "That's lunacy!" But the person replies, "Congress says you cannot deny me insurance because of a pre-existing condition." This mandate against insurance company discrimination would not only apply to home insurance but auto insurance and life insurance as well. Instead of a wife wasting money on costly life insurance premiums, she could spend that money on jewelry, cosmetics and massages and then wait until her husband kicked the bucket to buy life insurance on him.
Insurance companies don't stay in business and prosper by being stupid. If Congress were to enact a law eliminating pre-existing condition exclusions, what might be expected? Say I'm a salesman for Nationwide and you demand that I write you an insurance policy for your house that has already gone up in flames. I send an appraiser out to your house to get an estimate how much money it would take to make you whole. Let's say it comes to $400,000. Guess how much I'm going to charge you for the policy? If you said somewhere in the neighborhood of $400,000, you'd be pretty close to the right answer. You might say, "Williams, you're right. Forcing fire and auto insurance companies to sell policies for a pre-existing fire or auto accident is bizarre and stupid, but it's different with health insurance." Adopt the filibuster

The filibuster is sure taking its lumps these days. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman says "the Senate – and, therefore, the U.S. government as a whole – has become ominously dysfunctional." The Democrats won the White House and Congress last year and should have had no trouble passing the health-care overhaul, yet "the need for 60 votes to cut off Senate debate and end a filibuster – a requirement that appears nowhere in the Constitution, but is simply a self-imposed rule – turned what should have been a straightforward piece of legislating into a nail-biter. And it gave a handful of wavering senators extraordinary power to shape the bill."
Why is this "dysfunctional"? I assume Krugman would praise the filibuster if a President Palin and Republican Congress were ramming bills through. Regardless of what senators in the 19th century had in mind, the filibuster is a wonderful antidote to the tyranny of the majority. It's no argument against it to say that the statists' favorite piece of legislation didn't fly through smoothly enough. They'll have to come up with a better case than that.
There is no greater threat to individual freedom and autonomy than government. The threat from private freelance crime is small potatoes compared to the daily usurpations of the state, with its taxation, regulation, privilege-granting, inflation and war. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's immortal passage has never been topped:
"To be governed is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. To be governed is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, counted, taxed, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, authorized, admonished, prevented, forbidden, reformed, corrected, punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be place(d) under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted from, squeezed, hoaxed, robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, hunted down, abused, clubbed, disarmed, bound, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored."
That just about covers it.

So I favor any procedural methods that can slow down government's legislative juggernaut. No matter how many times he claims everything is George Bush’s fault, Barack Obama was President of the United States for all but a few days of 2009. The lack of economic recovery is his. It’s true that he inherited problems – just as Bush inherited a recession from Bill Clinton. I’m not a fan of the neo-conservative (liberal lite) Bush, but he did a far better job with a sagging economy than the present White House occupant.

From time to time, I receive emails suggesting that God has rejected America, that the bloodshed of 50,000,000 innocent souls through abortion and the acts of immorality and abominations has come to its full and therefore, God has cast off our nation.
I disagree.
Until the angel of the Lord comes down and removes the faithful from the land, the mercy of God is still within our reach, and we should never, ever give up our hope because of our limited understanding. What is necessary is for us to expand our understanding of God so that we can expand our expectation of Him.
Can the grace and mercy of God be measured?
Can you know His deepest thoughts?
Can you fathom the width of His patience?
Has He told you of impending wrath to be poured upon America?
Are there signs for you to head to the hills and run?

A warning to teachers

We as teachers cannot afford to sit on the sidelines any longer. It cannot be business-as-usual as we seek to bring enlightenment to our over 100 charges each day, nonchalantly plowing through our benchmarks and state standards. There is something deeply disturbing about our profession, and the time has come to shed light on our role as the mentors of America's youth.Never before in my recollection has there been a youth so out of touch with America's values. This applies to the upscale "westside" schools as it does to the most challenging inner city environment. As I patrol the halls at times during our announcement and pledge-of-allegiance period, I see very few students or even teachers saluting to the flag. Why is this important? Why must our students visibly identify with their country? I bet you there are a whole bunch of teachers out there that have given up on presenting an unabashed view of patriotism and altruism. I sense that our destructive media and kowtowing boards of education prefer not to instigate the leftist media with any above-the-radar incidents that would bring scrutiny to their fiefdoms. What's happening across the land is basically that we teachers of America are losing our students. We are losing them to the Internet madness of pornography, the armies of organized gangs marauding through our cities and towns, the prolific drugs and stimulants that alter fragile, undeveloped minds, but most insidious of all, we're losing our youth to a national lethargy and political correctness that threatens to sap the collective fighting spirit of America, turning us into victims and setting our nation up for a home-grown fifth column, ripe for the picking of the leftist ideologues that abound on our campuses.For us teachers, it all starts in the credentialing programs. Former United B-777 Captain Dan Hanley was forced out of the cockpit after filing federally mandated complaints in 2003 about the lack of federal air marshals and onboard cabin cameras aboard his high-risk London-to-New York flights. Six years later, there was still no federal air marshal aboard Northwest Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit, even though both cities are well-known hotbeds of radical Islamic activity.

PC Stupidity Makes Airport Security A Farce

In October of 2004, I learned first-hand just how serious our federal government is about defending us from terrorists who threaten airliners; it isn't. I was at Boston's Logan Airport, and had just checked in for my one-way flight to Baltimore where I would board a charter flight bound for Qatar. From there I was to take a military transport into Afghanistan where I would spend the next several months - I was an officer in the U.S. Air Force. My one-way ticket to BWI automatically triggered a call for additional screening at the security checkpoint. When we fail to learn our lesson

Ten years ago, on Dec. 24, 1999, a group of Pakistani men hijacked an Indian airbus, Flight IC-814. After forcing the plane to land in Afghanistan, the hijackers negotiated the release of three terrorists virtually unknown in the United States: Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar.
And America slept.
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright testified before Congress that she was "concerned about the fact that groups … involved in the recent hijacking of Indian Airlines 814 operate in Pakistan." She went on to explain that "we have been concerned about Pakistan's support for the Taliban, who are, in turn, closely linked to Osama bin Laden." Yet the Clinton administration did nothing, continuing to treat Islamic terrorism as a law enforcement problem.
It didn't work.
The Clinton administration didn't bother to keep real tabs on the hijackers or terrorists released by the Indian government. This was massively unwise. The hijackers had ties to both al-Qaida and the Taliban, as well as to the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence, a terrorist facilitator. The Taliban ensured safe passage for the hijackers. And all three men released by the Indian government in the hostage standoff went on to directly harm the United States and its allies.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano finally admitted the system she presides over failed miserably in preventing a known Muslim terrorist, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, to board NWA 253 and actually begin the detonation of a homemade bomb designed to kill nearly 300 on board the Detroit-bound flight on Christmas Day.
Earlier, she maintained "the system worked."
Keep in mind Napolitano directs a $50 billion agency funded with one main purpose – to prevent these kinds of terrorist attacks on the American homeland.
Let's diagnose the latest incident.
The terrorist was reported to the U.S. State Department as a potential threat by his own father. Yet, he was permitted to board a U.S.-bound airliner because his name did not appear on the no-fly list.
Once again, government proved it cannot be trusted to guard the American people.
Had alert passengers not subdued the attacker in this case, the airliner might have been destroyed.
So what is government doing about its failure?
It's making airline passengers more uncomfortable. In future flights, passengers will be forbidden in the last hour from having anything on their laps – books, blankets, sweaters, etc. They will also be banned from standing up.
In other words, the very thing that prevented a disaster on flight 253, passengers standing up and taking down the terrorist, would become illegal under the new rules.
Make sense?
It does in the wacky world of Janet Napolitano – a woman, you might remember, who was profiling "right-wing extremists," not Islamic terrorists, when she took over her position earlier this year.

Dear Angela,
This is a really good question, and I think you're smart to want to stay on the seller's good side. You want to be classy and diplomatic. Never point out the bad things about an item someone's selling just to drive down the price. You're liable to blow the whole deal right off the bat if you insult their merchandise or insinuate the price is unfair.
What if you try something like this? Tell them it's a fine vehicle, and their price is fair, but the amount they're asking is outside your budget. Let them know that you want to work out a deal, and for it to fit into your lifestyle, you can only pay a certain amount. You might throw in that a lot of people are selling things right now because of the economy, and you're just looking for the best deal.
Who knows? Maybe that and letting them know you're standing there with money in hand will help swing this thing in your favor!
