A Warning

To sabotage Iran, not bomb it

''US and UK intelligence services are cooperating with the Mossad to sabotage Teheran’s nuclear program in exchange for Israel agreeing not to launch a military strike on Iran, the French weekly Le Canard enchaîné reported on Thursday, quoting French intelligence sources.''

The sabotage included, according to the report, the introduction of the Stuxnet computer virus into 30,000 computers in Iran’s nuclear reactors and explosions in October in which 18 Iranian technicians were killed at a factory in the Zagros mountains that manufactured Shihab missiles.
According to the sources, the assassination of five Iranian nuclear scientists were also carried out by the Mossad in cooperation with the American and British intelligence agencies. The sources said the cooperation continues, and more joint actions aimed at stopping Iran from completing its nuclear program are expected. http://www.jpost.com/International/Article.aspx?id=201637

The Year ONE

I toast your tea-bag

The lamest damn ducks of all

''Charles Krauthammer refers to Obama as the Comeback Kid, basing that conclusion on the fact that he rebounded so miraculously after the shellacking the Democrats received in November. Krauthammer is right, but the comeback is entirely due to the Republicans taking a collective dive.'' The question, boys and girls, is: Just how dumb do you have to be in order to be a Republican politician?
I actually believed those ignoramuses had learned their lesson after the elections of 2006 and 2008. I was convinced that they'd seen the error of their ways, that cozying up to the likes of Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold could only lead to both liberals and conservatives holding them in utter contempt.
I was certain that the recent midterm elections would drive home the point that most voters were experiencing buyer's remorse after four years of Pelosi and Reid, and two years of Barack Obama. But, as the lame duck session proved, you can never go wrong underestimating the intelligence of Republican officeholders. From this vantage point, it appeared that at the very time when Obama was on the ropes and being chastised by the most left-wing elements of his party, the Republicans decided to buck him up.
Instead of waiting for the newly elected congress to deal with the Bush tax cuts by forcing Obama to either keep them at their current level for everyone or to let them rise on the middle class, something even he wouldn't have done, the Republicans elected to extend unemployment insurance by 13 months, thus providing Obama with his latest budget-busting stimulus program. When I was young, you got six months of benefits. Now you can get three years. At this rate, soon only natural-born suckers will bother working at all.
Then, in spite of those members of the military who are actually fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan being opposed to repealing "don't ask, don't tell," the GOP used the most cockeyed poll in history as an excuse to go along with the liberals. Obama's real birth certificate won't be found

''Obama told “Newsday,” on August 22, 2010 that “The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide.”''

CNN’s Chris Matthews cited a “New York Times” poll in April reporting that only 58% of Americans believe Obama was born in the U.S. A fifth said he was born elsewhere, and 23% said they didn’t know. “Why hasn’t the President himself not demanded that they put out the initial document?” Matthews asked on his Monday show.
Finally, Obama’s Kenyan grandmother, his half brother and half-sister say they were present at his birth in Kenya!
What’s important now is that Hawaii’s Governor and Chris Matthews have joined Col. Lakin in demanding proof.
I predict the certificate won’t be found and America will face a constitutional crisis. http://www.wnd.com/commentary

2011: Clean...for now

The smug arrogance of the atheists

Writers Christopher Hitchens (left, 'God is not Great') and Sam Harris (center, 'The End of Faith') embody modern atheism, says S.E. Cupp. Bill Maher (right) rips religion in his film 'Religulous.

''When the esteemed theologian David Martyn Lloyd-Jones asked C.S. Lewis when he would write another book, Lewis responded, "When I understand the meaning of prayer." It was an acknowledgment that he - a thinker with a much sharper mind than, say, Maher's - didn't know everything. I implore my fellow atheists to take this humility to heart. There's still a lot to learn, but only if you're not too busy being a know-it-all.''

Back in college, while I was busy pretending that a blottoed discussion of Nietzsche over $1 beers made me an intellectual giant, my fiftysomething father, who'd worked so hard to send me there, was quietly being saved. Having long eschewed any ties to his Southern Baptist upbringing, he suddenly found himself born again and on a quest to know God better.
As a longtime atheist, I was a little surprised. But eventually I came to be relieved by this development. While my friends' fathers were buying flashy sports cars and exchanging their wives for models, my own father was turning inward and asking: Is there more to life than this?
I was also proud of him for becoming a student again. As I watched him pore over
C.S. Lewis, Lee Strobel and even neoatheist thinkers such as Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens, I thought it amazing that he still wanted to learn something new.
It was a revelation I'd experience over and over again - meeting faithful believers and discovering that, no matter how long they'd been in the fold, many were still on a dogged quest for spiritual knowledge.
And it's why I decided to go back to school as well and study religion in a more meaningful way. It wasn't necessarily an acknowledgment of a higher power, but a realization that I knew little about the beliefs I had railed so arrogantly against. Read more:

King James Bible turns 400

''It took seven years to create the volume known as the KJV. And while the title page stated it was "newly translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised."''

Its cadence is found in the speeches of Abraham Lincoln and the lyrics of Paul Simon. Renowned narrator Alexander Scourby and country music legend Johnny Cash have recorded spoken versions of the text. It's estimated that 1 billion copies have been printed since the first volume rolled off the press in 1611.
The King James Version of the Bible, also known as the "Authorized Version," marks its 400th anniversary in 2011, and by any measure, it has had a lasting impact on the world and on the language into which it was sent. The "authorized" moniker comes from a title-page declaration that this Bible was "authorized to be read in churches."
"The sheer poetry of the King James Version, not to mention its almost half-millennium of absolute authority, militates against its slipping into obscurity any time soon," declared Phyllis Tickle, longtime religion editor at Publishers Weekly magazine.
Even noted atheist Richard Dawkins has praise for the volume: "You can't appreciate English literature unless you are to some extent steeped in the King James Bible. There are phrases that come from it — people don't realize they come from it — proverbial phrases, phrases that make echoes in people's minds," he said in a video released by the King James Bible Trust, the British organization that is one promoter of the 400th-anniversary celebrations due next year.
"Not to know the King James Bible is to be, in some small way, barbarian," Mr. Dawkins added. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/dec/29/king-james-bibles-400-year-reign/

We need a new 'manifest destiny'

''As it stands, we buy into a Faustian Bargain that will lead to a Hobson’s Choice ending. That won’t be pretty for any of us.''

The year 2011 arrives in a matter of days! With it the promise of a new start! We face horrendous challenges on multiple fronts. We can change our actions to bring positive results. The new year allows us to cease our past behaviors and move toward an encouraging American experience for all citizens.
Enjoy my list for improving America in 2011: http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty623.htm

Saving the Bill of Rights

''In regard to freedom of religion, it must be noted that nowhere in the Bill of Rights, or the Constitution, did the Founding Fathers include "separation of church and state," although modern-day Liberals have convinced many Americans such a doctrine appears in the Constitution. (It doesn't. Period.).'' The Bill of Rights has now stood for some 219 years, and has made Americans the envy of the world, in which the protected rights expressed in the Bill of Rights are only dreamed about by most of the world's people.
However, perhaps never before have the freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights been as threatened as they are today by an ever-expanding Congress, ever-expanding Executive Branch, and, perhaps the most pernicious of all, an ever-expanding Judicial Branch, in which only one class of citizens may serve, lawyers. http://www.newswithviews.com/Lloyd/rees114.htm

United Snitches of America

''Even blind man can see that our Federal government has been taken over and that the most efficient and terrorist police state in the history of the world is in the midst of being implemented right here in the United States and is being done so at breakneck speed.''

As Americans are in the midst of one of the busiest holiday travel season of the year, they can take comfort in the fact that TSA, CBP and DHS, despite the public outcry, are ensuring that American airline passengers are still the victims of continued second degree sexual assault conducted by TSA employees on behalf of the Federal government. According to the Feds, it is necessary for us to surrender our personal freedom by allowing ourselves to be sexually violated in order to protect us from whoever is playing the boogey man of the day.
Is this DHS, TSA trade off of liberty for some imagined level of security paying off? Well, not exactly. Unbeknownst to the flying public, who are largely compliant with having their genitals squeezed by the TSA goons, a series of videos produced by an anonymous San Francisco Airport based pilot exposed the fact that hundreds of FedEx/UPS type cargo packages are being placed in the belly of airplanes with little-to-no scrutiny.
Just coincidentally, the TSA's felonious "goosing granny" program dovetails nicely with East German Stasi style, Big Sis "See something, say something" snitch on your neighbor program. More than 230 Walmart stores nationwide have launched the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign yesterday, with a total of 588 Walmart stores in 27 states joining in on the Stasi spy on your fellow citizen program in the coming weeks. http://www.newswithviews.com/Hodges/dave106.htm

Defining Global Warming by Maroons

Puke morons of greater Washington

A Freemason but not a moron

''...Had the banks actually loaned the money they got from the feds and saved the economy, a lot could be overlooked. Instead it went to executive bonuses and to stick taxpayers with the fraudulent loans on the banks' books that nobody else would buy. And half the banks that got free money weren't even in this country! This is what the East's elite colleges, their propagandistic media and the gated enclaves of inbred D.C. buffoons have made out of America. And it took them how long? Three years?''
Well, the failure has arrived. Everywhere but D.C. The economic downturn has illuminated this federal isolation even more starkly. While housing prices in most of the nation have been slammed, they're doing quite well in our federal government's suburbs. In fact, D.C. house prices are up 3.7 percent this year. High-paying jobs abound. And those jobs come with all the trappings: great benefits, nice vacations and fat retirements.
The daily "world" that our government "servants" see bears no relationship to the world in which the folks they pretend to "represent" actually live. Government workers commute to work in a cityscape that exists only vaguely in most Americans' memories. And they make decisions for all the rest of us in true Alfred E. Neuman "what me worry" style.
Put bluntly, the people running things in D.C. are dumber than a pile of dog s---. They know nothing about what their policies are doing to the rest of the country – and they couldn't care less. Their isolation insures this.
They create trillions of dollars out of thin air, lavish it on their Wall Street banker and broker pals – as well as those around the world – and wonder what the problem is. "Everything here seems fine!" They only see the rest of America from 35,000 feet. Read more: Dog-poop morons in D.C. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=245477#ixzz19aTSd38a

No security, no privacy

''Attacks on you, your data, your reputation and your civil liberties come from all sides and at all hours. The vigilance you must maintain is, at times, wearying. Everyone from your government to common thieves to your neighbors to your own family could represent a threat. Your only choice is to persevere with your eyes open and your mind active.''
Most of us understand the fundamentals of protecting our personal data. The concepts of data portability – and your vulnerability to theft, fraud and invasions of your privacy as functions of this portability – are issues with which many Americans are at least mildly familiar. I have explored different facets of these security issues in past Technocracy columns. The common thread among all of these articles is a single, merciless and implacable truth: You and your data are under attack from all sides and on all fronts by individuals, governmental entities and even your own fallibility.
According to Nachiket Mhatre, Mozilla (the company responsible for the popular Internet browser Firefox, among other things) demonstrated fallibility only too well this month, when it "inadvertently" posted a file online. The file contained e-mail addresses, first and last names, and algorithmic password data. In other words, the company published sensitive identity and security data that could be used for fraud, identity theft or simple vandalism ... because it made a mistake. There was no reason to post the file online, nor would Mozilla's employees ever want to make that data publicly available. This wasn't an issue of free speech; no activists were clamoring for transparency in Mozilla's record-keeping of user passwords. No, someone (or a group of someones) just screwed up.
Data breaches like this happen all the time. Many of us have had credit or debit cards canceled and reissued to us after a data breach at a "third party location" – usually hackers breaking into databases of account numbers and passwords that expose the holders of those cards to the possibility that thieves will make fraudulent transactions using the data. Sometimes these issues are caught before any stealing occurs, as was the case with a credit card of mine. Other times, the thefts aren't detected until a statement arrives. Several years ago I worked as an accountant for a firm whose business credit card was used to purchase several personal computers that were shipped to a hacker in Ireland.Read more: Your data: Increasingly under attack http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=245213#ixzz19aSXha6y

Incompetent Obama gets TV's help

''While there is no precedent for TV entertainment divisions mustering a propaganda campaign to benefit a sitting president, there was no precedent in 2008 for TV news divisions to act as the propaganda arm of a presidential candidate's campaign. Yet this is precisely what occurred and what, say many, put Obama in the White House.''

It is more or less common knowledge among conservatives that the entertainment industry has done more than its share in abetting far-left social engineering in America. While I would certainly not be the first commentator to enumerate the multitudinous examples thereof, I did thoroughly analyze the machinations of film and television producers with respect to race issues since the 1970s in my book, "Negrophilia: From Slave Block to Pedestal – America's Racial Obsession."
An interesting phenomenon has recently come to light, however, suggesting that at least one faction in Hollywood is attempting to directly influence public opinion as regards President Obama. If this is true, it goes far beyond simply carrying the water for those with whom they are ideologically kindred, as described in "Negrophilia."
The presidency of Barack Obama has been injurious to the image of black Americans in politics. Prior to his election, one of his glaring deficiencies was his lack of experience. While even his detractors realize that his race has nothing to do with his being an anti-American, Marxist scoundrel, one still has to consider the superficial associations people can make in this vein. I have stated that it's unfortunate that our first black president had to be a person of Obama's character, because he does represent a blemish on the legacy of black Americans. In the best-case scenario, he will wind up merely being a footnote: our first black president. The specter of the worst-case scenario is what has motivated and mobilized Americans toward thwarting his agenda. Liberals spend your money not their's

''In 2005, Vice President Cheney gave 77 percent of his income to charity. He also shot a lawyer in the face, which I think should count for something.''
Liberals never tire of discussing their own generosity, particularly when demanding that the government take your money by force to fund shiftless government employees overseeing counterproductive government programs.
They seem to have replaced "God" with "Government" in scriptural phrases such as "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37).
This week, we'll take a peek at the charitable giving of these champions of the poor.
In 2009, the Obamas gave 5.9 percent of their income to charity, about the same as they gave in 2006 and 2007. In the eight years before he became president, Obama gave an average of 3.5 percent of his income to charity, upping that to 6.5 percent in 2008.
The Obamas' charitable giving is equally divided between "hope" and "change."
George W. Bush gave away more than 10 percent of his income each year he was president, as he did before becoming president.
Thus, in 2005, Obama gave about the same dollar amount to charity as President George Bush did, on an income of $1.7 million – more than twice as much as President Bush's $735,180. Again in 2006, Bush gave more to charity than Obama on an income one-third smaller than Obama's. Liberals OK with high fuel prices

''Obama also called for "a windfall-profits penalty on oil selling at or over $80 per barrel." As of Christmas 2010, a barrel of oil sold at slightly above $90. What happened to the windfall-profits tax?''

Five dollars per gallon of gas by 2012! A former president of Shell Oil considers this likely. The average price on Christmas Day for a gallon of regular gas reached $3.28 in Los Angeles County, the highest price since October 2008. In one month, the price rose 13 cents, up 35 cents year to year.
Where are the calls to sic Obama's Justice Department on Big Oil to hold the oil companies accountable for "market manipulation"? Why aren't we hunting down the amoral "oil speculators" responsible for repealing the law of supply-and-demand in order to line their pockets?
During President George W. Bush's administration, we constantly heard demands to hold the president accountable for "Big Oil's price gouging." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., just two years ago, knew exactly whom to blame for "skyrocketing" oil prices: "The price of oil is at the doorstep; $4-plus per gallon for oil is attributed to two oilmen in the White House and their protectors in the United States Senate."
In 2007, when the average national price ranged from $2.17 to $3.22, then-Sen. Barack Obama demanded that the Federal Trade Commission investigate Big Oil for "price manipulation." In 2008, presidential candidate Obama urged the Justice Department "to open an investigation into whether energy traders have been engaged in illegal activities that have helped drive up the price of oil and food." Obamacare

We are SCREWED if...

''What if. What if there is a 'real' disaster? Six U.S. cities are nuked, bio-engineered small pox is unleashed? What then? WE ARE SCREWED.''

Close to 10,000 total flights have been canceled since the beginning of a holiday blizzard that blanketed much of the U.S. northeast with snow and left thousands stranded.
Airline representatives from AirTran, American, Continental, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, United, U.S. Airways, Spirit and Southwest reported a total of at least 9,726 trips were called off due to weather since Saturday.
Of those, at least 1,335 flights were canceled on Tuesday as major airports across the region slowly got back to normal.
"With all the cancellations and delays, it'll be two to three days before the airlines are at a regular schedule," said Thomas Bosco, general manager of New York's LaGuardia Airport.
By early Tuesday evening, LaGuardia was still operating well below its normal 70 flights per hour, he said.
John F. Kennedy Airport, in the New York City borough of Queens, and Newark Liberty International, in northern New Jersey, opened to incoming and departing traffic at 6 p.m. Monday, Port Authority spokeswoman Sara Joren said. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/12/28/airlines.weather/index.html

Obama abridges the Power of the Press

''Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.''

The White House is taking extra steps to prevent photos of a shirtless President Obama on vacation in Hawaii.
The president and his family are on a snorkeling trip in Hamauma Bay Nature Reserve, and traveling press are under “explicit instructions that there will be no long lenses or other sneaky attempts to take pictures,” according to a pool report. Photos of a shirtless president on a Hawaii vacation after his win in the 2008 presidential election caused a stir two Christmases ago. Washingtonian magazine even ran a photo of the president for a cover story on why it’s good to live in D.C. “Our new neighbor is hot,” the magazine declared.
But pictures aren’t likely to come out of Tuesday’s trip to the beach. “All you folks who wanted shirtless pictures of the president: Forget it,” writes The New York Times’s Sheryl Stolberg in her pool report. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/135327-obama-no-shirtless-pics

Gingrich, Palin to become 'curiosities'

Bill Kristol, the Fox News analyst and Weekly Standard editor, made a couple of predictions on Fox News Sunday about the GOP presidential race:

“Can I go out on a limb, since everyone else is scared to say — actually make any predictions. I predict Palin will not run. I have no knowledge at all; I just have the hunch that she ultimately will not run.
I think Newt Gingrich is underestimated. Newt is going to run and Newt will be formidable. People can talk about the baggage, but lots of candidates have had lots of baggage, and people think they’re the right guy for the job, he could do better — and I do think — than people expect.”

Kristol has been an advocate for Palin in the past, so his prediction about her candidacy is interesting in that light. I also think he’s correct. Palin has peaked politically, and will be taken less and less seriously from here on out. A year from now, she’ll be considered little more than a curiosity.

From Shit to Life in North Korea

Dear Leader Kim Jong-il was voted top shitter for 2009-10

''Shops selling human excrement began operating in North Korea this year, as acute shortages of fertiliser in the sanctions-wracked country put a price on faeces, an analyst said.''
Aid groups have said human waste has long been used on domestic crops in the impoverished communist state, but there is now a trade in the readily available commodity, a North Korea analyst told a seminar at a South Korean university.
"Each household used to use human excrement as fertiliser. But because it's hard to keep up with the amount, 'human manure' shops showed up at markets," Kim Young-Soo, a professor at Seoul's Sogang University, told the seminar.
The lack of fertiliser has become acute since South Korea stopped annual shipments of rice and fertiliser to North Korea in 2008, amid worsening relations. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8189544/n-korea-shop-found-selling-human-poo

Obama: Snow removal

The real 'birthers'

''Barack Obama’s father was a foreign national, a citizen of Kenya - then ruled by Britain. Inheriting the condition of his father at birth, Barack Hussein Obama was born with the natural citizenship rights of his father, a British subject and citizen of Kenya, not the United States.
As such, Barack Hussein Obama was born with foreign loyalties and as a result, he violates the natural born citizen requirement for the office he currently holds and everyone including all members of the US Supreme Court know it.''

International leftists and anti-American Democratic Socialists like MSNBC’s Chris Matthews care, that’s who! These folks are the real “birthers,” desperate to prove that Obama is US born, with absolutely no help from their political messiah.
They care where Obama was born because they want to make the issue of presidential constitutional eligibility all about birth place, aka “native-born” status, instead of “natural-born” status, which has nothing to do with birth place.
Leftists want anyone “born on US soil” to be eligible for the office of president, including “anchor babies” and even 14th Amendment citizens, none of whom are “natural-born citizens” of the United States. They want to rewrite Article II – Section I – Clause V via precedent and so far, they are doing a fine job of doing just that!
Leftists and even many ill-informed on the political right have worked tirelessly to make the issue of Obama’s eligibility all about nothing more than his birth place, alleged to be Hawaii. But birth place is only a demonstration of “native-born” status, not “natural-born” status.http://www.newswithviews.com/JBWilliams/williams121.htm

And then there was dark

''Logic suggests that when the power goes out for an extended period of time, desperation will eventually lead to growing violence and theft as a means to survive. Are you prepared for that?''

There seem to be two kinds of people in our world today: those who are preparing for the inevitable and those who are, for whatever reason, ignoring it. The warnings are everywhere. They’re like blaring civil defense sirens that never shut off. You would think everyone could hear them – but only a few have responded. The rest just continue on as they always have, unaffected by the unrelenting sound of the sirens.
Have you ever considered what your life would be like without just one modern day element, like electricity? In the 1800s it wouldn’t have been a big deal; but here in 2010, it would be catastrophic.
Remember that strange missile that soared through the sky unannounced and undeterred off the coast of California recently? If a small nuclear device had been aboard one of those and detonated high enough over Middle America, chances are, most, if not all of our country would have gone dark and stayed dark for months or years. And, many of the things we take for granted every day that are powered by electricity would have been indefinitely shut down, having had the insides fried by an electromagnetic pulse generated from the explosion.
Forget the abrupt halt that would have come to Wall Street and Main Street, not to mention our out-of-service cell phones, telephones, televisions, radios, computers, traffic lights, streetlights, coffee makers, microwave ovens, hairdryers and all those plug-in appliances we rely on each day to keep and prepare food for our families. http://www.newswithviews.com/PaulProctor/proctor219.htm

Obama's missing link

I want to present you with a hypothetical. Let’s say a leader were elected who had, during his childhood, been mentored by an avowed Nazi. Let us further say that his guardians had chosen this mentor for him, indicating that they likely were sympathetic to the man’s beliefs. Now, let us say that upon reaching college, this future leader gravitated toward Nazi professors. Moreover, we then find out that a man who knew the leader as an undergraduate and was, at the time, a Nazi himself, said that the leader was “in 100 percent, total agreement” with his Nazi professors and was a flat-out Nazi who believed in old-style Brownshirt tactics.
Okay, we’re almost done. After graduating, the leader-to-be spends 20 years sitting in a white-power church, has an alliance with a self-proclaimed Nazi and ex-terrorist and, apparently, becomes a member of a National Socialist party for a while. And then, upon being elected, he appoints an avowed Nazi to his administration and also a woman who cites Adolf Hitler as one of her two favorite philosophers. Now, here’s the million-depreciated-dollar question:
What would be nuttier, to claim that this man was a Nazi or that such an assertion was a radical statement? Let’s now transition to the actual. Here is a fact: If you took the above description of my hypothetical leader and replaced “Nazi” with “communist,” “flat-out Nazi” with “flat-out Marxist-Leninist,” “Brownshirt tactics” with “communist revolution,” “white-power” with “black-power,” “National Socialist” with “socialist” and “Adolf Hitler” “with Mao Tse-tung,” you would have an accurate description of a leader in power today.
His name is Barack Obama. http://www.newswithviews.com/Duke/selwyn146.htm

The separation of school and state

''You might notice those young women saying, "Well then, I can't afford to bear a child by this shiftless gangster. I wonder if that young man who was so nice to me at church is still interested. He's a little boring, but he might be the kind who'd actually land a job and stick around and help me raise my kids."''

We keep getting letters explaining government schools can't turn out as good a product as private schools -- even private schools spending less per student -- since the private schools choose their students, while mandatory government youth internment camps have to "take every which one."
In a speech he gave after being named New York City's Teacher of the Year (yes, "public school") in 1989, John Taylor Gatto famously said: "Our form of compulsory schooling is an invention of the state of Massachusetts, from around 1850. It was resisted -- sometimes with guns -- by an estimated 80 percent of the Massachusetts population, with the last outpost, in Barnstable on Cape Cod, not surrendering its children until the 1880s, when the area was seized by the militia and the children marched to school under guard. ...
"Senator Ted Kennedy's office released a paper not too long ago claiming that prior to compulsory education the state literacy rate was 98 percent, and after it the figure never again climbed above 91 percent, where it stands in 1990. ... http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/time-to-separate-school-and-state-112468074.html

Tea for Two

Slap of the Helping Hand

''And pay a lot for credit. Payday lenders make small short-term loans, sometimes just till payday. But the annual interest is nasty – often more than 500 percent. Several states have outlawed payday lenders. The politicians say they do it to help low-income people. But again, their "help" harms. The lenders' former customers complain that the payday lenders were their only way to avoid missing a bill payment – and maybe having the lights shut off.''

Last year, Congress passed the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act. It was supposed to really end the alleged abuses perpetrated by the credit-card companies. The law forbids some penalties and interest-rate increases on existing balances.
It is one of President Obama's proudest achievements.
"Enough's enough," he said. "It's time for strong, reliable protection for our consumers."
Reform, he said, would not come at the expense of honest businesses. "Unless your business model depends on cutting corners or bilking your customers, you've got nothing to fear."
Finally! Protection! A new bureaucracy will stop greedy credit-card companies from unfairly penalizing you. And it won't threaten the credit business. Yippie!
How has it worked out?
Not so well. George Mason University law professor Todd Zywicki points out that the new restrictions hurt more consumers than they help. Read more: Please stop 'helping' us http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=245105#ixzz19URD9Qw5

Students:What They Must Know

''Why has education failed us in the Twentieth Century? It has failed because it adopted the goals of social scientists as they lust for power.''

Education has been defined as "learning what you MUST KNOW in order to FIND OUT what you NEED TO KNOW." Reading, writing, and arithmetic are called the education BASICS for good reason. You must have these skills to FIND OUT things you NEED TO KNOW.
How could you read a book, shop intelligently, understand road signs when driving, follow directions on household appliances, earn a living, detect lies, follow your many interests and inclinations if you could not read, write, and figure? How could you make your own decisions if you had no way to seek information, and no accumulation of knowledge against which to compare and evaluate new information?
Reading, writing, and arithmetic are the basic essentials of what you must know to FIND OUT what you NEED TO KNOW. Without these basic skills you are at the mercy of the opinions of others and without the ability to gather enough facts to verify or discard what you have been told.
If learning what you must know to find out what... http://www.newswithviews.com/Erica/Carle179.htm

Making Big Brother Blink

''What the government hasn’t done, in deed refuses to do, is take the necessary action to secure the nation’s borders to stop illegals, including potential or known terrorists from entering the country.''

Just days before the busiest travel weekend of the year (Thanksgiving holiday) the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) decided to flex its muscle and not only enforce the use of the very unpopular whole body imaging x-ray machines (called by many, the naked machines), but for those who refused to use them, the TSA generously offered a “choice” of a vigorous manual groping. Worse or “even worse” is not a choice. Americans finally got upset and said so.
A nationwide protest began to take shape called “Opt Out,” encouraging travelers to make their feelings known by refusing to enter the full-body scanners, demanding the more time-consuming pat downs. The point was to send a very strong message to an arrogant government agency by clogging airport security areas, forcing the TSA to back off the use of the scanners. Also, the more people forced to endure the invasive pat downs, the greater possibility TSA would back off of those as well. http://www.newswithviews.com/DeWeese/tom187.htm

When a crippled Congress attacked

''When Americans awake after the Christmas holiday and their traditional New Year celebrations, they will awake in a country very different from the one they thought they had saved in the November elections.''

In the closing week of the lame duck session, the duck didn’t look lame at all. In fact, it was in rare form. Before losing power for the foreseeable future, Democratic Socialists passed the following as a Christmas present to all Americans –
• They grabbed full control of your food supply via their so-called food safety act• They forced our US Military to focus on Gay Rights instead of training soldiers and winning wars

• They spent a trillion more in money we don’t have, all on their leftist agenda

• They seized control of the Internet

• They passed Russia’s START treaty making certain that America is no longer the superpower

• They expanded labor union powers to prop up corrupt unions in every state at every level

• They warned all Americans to “expect bad news” in the coming days, as they have allowed our enemies to live among us and cannot prevent coming terror strikes on US soil, in the war on terror they say doesn’t actually exist

• They made sure that taxpayers were going to pay people not to work for up to 36 months

• And they only extended tax breaks for employers and investors for another year, making sure that private sector job creation remains stagnate

• They put a career military officer in Leavenworth for asking who his Commander-in-Chief really is

• In short, they have done more to destroy this country in the last week than Bin Laden has in his entire miserable life – That’s one hell of a week! They could not have done it without the consent of Republicans and that’s the real story here…http://www.newswithviews.com/JBWilliams/williams120.htm

Question Insanity: What to Ask Progressives

''The two women who showed up early for my book signing at a small bookstore in Houston, TX, never even bothered to open my book. Wearing knowing smiles, they engaged me in a bizarre discussion that wound up leaping all around the known and unknown universe. They hadn’t the slightest curiosity about my ideas as an ex-Soviet immigrant in America, or what I had to say about my experience working inside the two ideologically opposed systems.''

Their act almost made me feel as if I were back in the USSR, where the harassment of people with my opinions was the norm. The shorter, pudgier woman was the soloist bully, while her skinnier, older comrade provided backup vocals and noise effects. The duo’s repertoire was an eclectic collection of unoriginal talking points, each branded with an almost legible label: NPR, Air America, MSNBC, and so on. Not only were those mental fragments mismatched in key and rhythm; the very existence of harmony seemed an unfamiliar concept to them. But compared to the hard-core screaming I used to hear from card-carrying Soviet bullies, this was almost elevator music. If I had survived the original cast, I could certainly handle a watered-down remake.
Framed on their terms, the debate zigzagged from the evils of unbridled capitalism to global warming to Bush’s wars for oil to Sarah Palin’s stupidity. Since my opponents wouldn’t give me a chance to respond, I soon became bored and tried to entertain myself by redirecting the flow of mental detritus against itself in a way that would cause its own annihilation. I did that by asking questions. http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/question-insanity-what-to-ask-progressives/?singlepage=true

A tale of 2 presidents

What do women want?

''Today, feminism holds less appeal for young women than it did for the previous generation, but "equality" remains the liberal god of the day. That renders my theory – that a woman wants to be cherished by a man she admires – politically incorrect in the extreme.''

In my previous column, I offered an answer to the question: What do men want?
I made the case that what men most want from the woman they love is to be admired.
If my answer is correct, and if we presume that the natures of men and women are complementary (a presumption many men and women understandably doubt given how often men and women do not get along), what women most want must be related to that which men most want.
I believe it is.
What a woman most wants is to be loved by a man she admires.
I am well aware that to say this today is akin to announcing that the sun revolves around the Earth. For half a century, we have been told that what women most want is professional success and equality. And to the extent that a modern "liberated" woman does admit to wanting a man to love, she will say that she wants a "partner" who is her "equal." And girls and women have been told – or, more accurately, have had drummed into them – that equality means that both sexes are essentially the same (except for the physical differences) and therefore want the same things. Equality and sameness have been rendered synonymous. That is why she cannot say – and ideally wouldn't even admit to herself – that she wants a man to admire; that would be "sexist," as it would imply an unequal relationship. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244705

Re-evaluating 'free trade' with China

''Some people foolishly call our relationship with China "free trade." But there is nothing free or fair about it. It is trade war between an aggressively protectionist communist government and a U.S. that is shackled by foolish and out-of-date illusions about free trade.''

The voters who elected the new Congress expect it to cast off unconstitutional and discredited policies such as Keynesian big-spending and judicial grabbing of legislative prerogatives. We also hope Congress will shake itself loose from the dishonest, anti-American trade policies of other countries, especially communist China.
Although China is called a major trading partner, it treats U.S. companies like suckers, cheating them coming and going. Beijing even intimidates U.S. businessmen so they don't dare criticize China's unfair trade tactics.
Take, for example, the attitude of CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt of General Electric, the company now laying off hundreds of U.S. workers and giving those jobs making light bulbs to Chinese workers. He won't comment about the current U.S. case in the World Trade Organization accusing China of giving illegal subsidies to Chinese wind-turbine makers.
A few years ago, GE caved in to the Chinese government's demand that it build a large wind-turbine factory in China. Since GE owns a crucial patent for wind turbines, this demand was based on the Chinese anti-free trade policy called indigenous innovation (which China expert James McGregor calls "a blueprint for technology theft on a scale the world has never seen before").
China then developed its own wind-turbine manufacturers and is now directing purchasers to buy from those Chinese firms instead of from GE. That's the reality in what free traders naively believe is the world's fast-growing market for U.S. goods. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244685

The racial gap in education

"To be grossly politically incorrect, most of America's educational woes vanish if these indifferent, troublesome students left when they had absorbed as much as they were going to learn and were replaced by learning-hungry students from Korea, Japan, India, Russia, Africa and the Caribbean."

"That speaks about who is going to be leading tomorrow."
So said Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Every three years, the Paris-based OECD holds its Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) tests of the reading, math and science skills of 15-year-olds in developing and developed countries. Gurria was talking of the results of the 2009 tests.
Sixty-five nations competed. The Chinese swept the board.
The schools of Shanghai-China finished first in math, reading and science. Hong Kong-China was third in math and science. Singapore, a city-state dominated by overseas Chinese, was second in math, fourth in science.
Only Korea, Japan and Finland were in the hunt.
And the USA? America ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science and 25th in math, producing the familiar quack-quack.
"This is an absolute wake-up call for America," said Education Secretary Arne Duncan. "We have to face the brutal truth. We have to get much more serious about investment in education." http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244717

Constitutional End Run

''Whatever the merits or demerits of the proposed provision in Medicare legislation, the Constitution of the United States makes the elected representatives of "we the people" the ones authorized to make such decisions. But when proposals explicitly rejected by a vote in Congress are resurrected and stealthily made the law of the land by bureaucratic fiat, there has been an end run around both the people and the Constitution.''

The Constitution of the United States begins with the words "We the people." But neither the Constitution nor "we the people" will mean anything if politicians and judges can continue to do end runs around both.
Bills passed too fast for anyone to read them are blatant examples of these end runs. But last week, another of these end runs appeared in a different institution when the medical "end of life consultations" rejected by Congress were quietly enacted through bureaucratic fiat by administrators of Medicare.
Although Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Sen. Jay Rockefeller had led an effort by a group of fellow Democrats in Congress to pass Section 1233 of pending Medicare legislation, which would have paid doctors to include "end of life" counseling in their patients' physical checkups, the Congress as a whole voted to delete that provision.
Republican Rep. John Boehner, soon to become speaker of the House, objected to this provision in 2009, saying: "This provision may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia." http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244649

Blizzard Dec 2010

Green and Wrong

''Karl Popper, the late, great philosopher of science, noted that for something to be called scientific, it must be, as he put it, "falsifiable." That is, for something to be scientifically true, you must be able to test it to see if it's false. That's what scientific experimentation and observation do. That's the essence of the scientific method. Unfortunately, the prophets of climate doom violate this idea. No matter what happens.''

Climate: Nothing makes fools of more people than trying to predict the weather. Whether in Los Angeles or London, recent predictions have gone crazily awry. Global warming? How about mini ice age?
The sight of confused and angry travelers stuck in airports across Europe because of an arctic freeze that has settled across the continent isn't funny. Sadly, they've been told for more than a decade now that such a thing was an impossibility — that global warming was inevitable, and couldn't be reversed.
This is a big problem for those who see human-caused global warming as an irreversible result of the Industrial Revolution's reliance on carbon-based fuels. Based on global warming theory — and according to official weather forecasts made earlier in the year — this winter should be warm and dry. It's anything but. Ice and snow cover vast parts of both Europe and North America, in one of the coldest Decembers in history. http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/557597/201012221907/The-Abiding-Faith-Of-Warm-ongers.htm

Obama: Less than Carter

Barack Obama has set a course that will leave his legacy as no more than a footnote in American presidential history. For all of the bluster and glory, for all of the pomp and circumstance, and yes, for all of the anticipated hope and the promised change, the whirlwind of hype and expectation surrounding the president a mere two years earlier has virtually dissolved.
He was the man destined to save this country from his predecessor's failures. He was the man who would end the war in Iraq, finish the war in Afghanistan, and shut down the prison at Guantánamo Bay. He was the man charged with rescuing the faltering American economy. He was the man who would usher in a post-racial era in an allegedly inherently racist American society. And he was the man who had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize based not on tangible accomplishment, but simply upon these very expectations.
On all of these accounts, President Obama has been a striking failure. http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/12/obama_destined_to_be_a_footnot_1.html

An America that no longer exists

''It’s hard to believe if not astonishing that America, the richest country in the world, features 42.8 million Americans subsisting on food stamps.''

Most Americans enjoyed a joyous Christmas full of presents, friends, families and children. Churches filled to capacity with worshippers bidding a “Merry Christmas” to everyone they passed. Santa Claus visited with a plethora of gifts for all good little boys and girls.
The ‘politically correct’ media called it ‘Happy Holidays’ because they feared offending anyone that didn’t ‘believe’ in Christmas. Nonetheless, I saw two showings of “Miracle on 34th Street” with Maureen O’Hara because I love the nostalgia of what America once represented. Additionally, I watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Donna Reed and Jimmy Stewart for the 40th time. Yes, I cry for the ‘America’ I once knew and understood.
As a kid born in the 40s, I know what America once meant to all Americans. That no longer exists! In its passing, most of our children cannot remember the simple pleasures of living on a farm, of our lives around the Christmas tree, big dinners for the parents around the big oak tables and the kids sitting around the card tables. http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty622.htm

The Universal American School

''If you crack the pedestal and pull down the ideal of learning, then achievement becomes a crime, open to all the barbs and arrows that can be directed at it by confused, self-entitled, spoiled, resentful, and unattractive children.''

There is a hidden reason, among many other reasons, why American schools no longer teach the detailed meaning of the Declaration and the Constitution and the Republic for which they stand.
And that hidden reason is: schools in this country are no longer American. They are looked at, by “professionals,” as universal schools.
That is, these schools service children, many of whom don't speak English or write English as their first language. And there is no major push to teach English thoroughly and rigorously to kids who don't speak it or write it.
When you look at a school, moreover, as a multi-cultural institution, and you glorify the notion of “ethnic diversity,” you are basically saying that integration into the great melting pot is no longer a priority. So, under that banner, why would you consider a major grounding in the Constitution important? You wouldn't.
What you're left with is essentially a social event, not an educational event.
And within that social event, there are various causes allied as a cluster of favored issues: greening; the environment; global warming; recycling; cleaning up pollution; a vague “equality”; helping those in need.
These trump freedom, individuality, independence, competence, achievement.
This isn't even training people to become cogs in the machine of society; it's training people to become educational zeros. http://www.newswithviews.com/Rappoport/jon125.htm

For a lean Congress

A Dollar is not always a Dollar

''Although it has already persisted longer than I expected, there is no question that this rate of increased spending cannot continue in 2011. Illinois and California are nearly bankrupt already, as is Detroit and many other cities across the country. Pension fund liabilities will lead to a significant decline in state and local spending, thus putting even more pressure on the federal government in its attempt to counteract the various sectoral declines. But that will not be possible, as despite their pro-banking tendencies, the new Republican majority in the House cannot permit the Obama administration to continue its unrestrained spending if they have any desire to keep their seats in 2012.''

There are times when nothing very interesting seems to happen, when the years fly by like one of the uneventful periods in the history book that connect one war to another. Of course, as Americans learned on Sept. 11, 2001, it is those uneventful and uninteresting periods of history that provide a superior quality of life for those actually living through it. It may be tedious for future historians to read of people living peacefully for year after year in prosperity, but no sane individual would prefer the excitement of famine, chaos and war to comfortable boredom.
Even in the shadow of Sept. 11, Americans have been fortunate to enjoy their fat and peaceful lives. Gate rape may be irksome and ominous in what it suggests for the future, but the minor molestations of TSA perverts aren't exactly the Red Army's entry into Berlin, either.
But we are living, quite literally, on borrowed time. While the economy has not entirely collapsed into a second Great Depression, neither has it recovered. The problem is not that unemployment remains high or that immigration has rendered the wages of millions of jobs too low to be appealing to Americans living off the largesse of the state. The problem is that the Federal Reserve and the federal government have papered over the bankruptcy of many banks, states and corporations in a foolish attempt to create an illusion of recovery where none exists.
It must be admitted that the central bankers of the world have been more successful in their desperate attempts to delay the eventual reckoning than I had expected them to be. I anticipated that by the end of this year, it would be obvious to even the casual observer that America was caught in the Great Depression 2.0, an economic contraction of larger scope and scale than the first Great Depression. That, clearly is not yet the case. For every report of widening bond yield spreads or international debt bailouts, there is a positive quarterly GDP release or upbeat Federal Reserve statement. The number of bank failures are up 21 percent from 2009, but the percentage of failed bank deposits to total bank deposits is down 43 percent over the same period. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244141

Obama dreams: We get the nightmare

"There is no use trying," said Alice, "one can't believe in impossible things."
"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the queen. "Why, sometimes I've believed six impossible things before breakfast."
– "Alice in Wonderland"
To believe in Obama's America, it's good to be a queen. You must be prepared to believe impossible things.
You must believe that Obama's indefinite detention of terrorists at Gitmo is different than Bush's indefinite detention of terrorists at Gitmo. After all, Obama promised to close Gitmo as a necessary action to restore America's reputation in the world. His intention to close Gitmo is what's important, certainly more important than the reality of leaving it open "indefinitely."
You must contrast Obama's indefinite detention of terrorists at Gitmo while heroically working to close Gitmo to Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Joe Arpaio with his desert tent city of county inmates in pink underwear singing Christmas carols. Obama, the indefinite detainer, has sued Sheriff Joe for violating the human rights of county inmates because Sheriff Joe has no intention of closing his tent city. Understand?
You must believe that Obama is committed to border security even though he sued Arizona when that state wanted to actually enforce the federal laws on immigration.
You must believe that openly homosexual U.S. soldiers will win the war with radical Islam when Islamic Shariah law punishes open homosexuality with death.
You must believe that "tolerance" demands your approval of a triumphal mosque at Ground Zero, but respect for "diversity" requires you to understand why Muslims were so offended by a Christian church near Baghdad they killed 68 parishioners attending mass. Those Christians (who were in Iraq before there was an "Islam") sure can be provocative.
You must believe that you are safer on an airplane flight from radical Muslim terrorists if the TSA can take your nude X-ray picture and/or grope your genitalia.
You must believe that FCC restrictions on the Internet will enhance free speech. And you must believe that these FCC restrictions, adopted by the FCC without any lawful authority from Congress, are lawful because the FCC intends to protect you from evil corporations, and its intention is pure. The FCC is acting in the public interest and need no authority from Congress to do so. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=244329
