Using the Golden Rule in Business - Because It's Right and it Works

Friendly cooperation will get you far more than unfriendly agitation in any market.

"Every day has two buttons. You can push the HARD button and release anxiety or you can push the EASY button and release enthusiasm. You choose your day."
- Mike Corthell

When you treat your competitors with the courtesy and respect you would like, most will respond in kind, and the result is a stable, productive, profitable industry.
On the other hand, an industry or market that is composed of vicious, unethical competitors will soon destroy itself.
When you are asked how your products and services compare with those of your competitors, speak respectfully and politely about your rivals, but use the question to shift the discussion to your company and your products.
Acknowledge others’ good points, and then move on. If you complain too much about the competition, prospective customers may wonder what they are missing and refuse to buy until they have compared your products and services with those of others.

George Washington Dollar CNoins: No Trust

''In God We Trust'' is Missing from this coin

Its been a long time since Americans have embraced a $1 coin, I predict the new George Washington dollar coin will fare no better than Susan B. Anthony. I haven’t really liked a silver dollar since they stopped making them out of silver.
Of course now, our coins aren't worth the metal they are made out of and they cost twice as much as their face value to produce. I suppose we need to keep those government employees busy at the US Mint, so keep on coining.
Besides, they keep seamstresses busy sewing patches into pockets.
The main reason I predict they’ll fail is because true Americans will find them defective — not the pretty gold-ish colored coin itself (I know, it isn’t really made of gold) but, the fact that the United States government is officially minting coinage that no longer says, “IN GOD WE TRUST” on it’s face.
In order to allow for “larger and more dramatic artwork”, the Presidential $1 coins moved the year of minting, the mint mark, the motto from the Great Seal of the United States, and the national motto from the obverse or reverse where they’ve proudly appeared, to an incused inscription on the edge where they are often unnoticed. Congress has reversed its previous specifications and instructed the US Mint to return the motto, “In God We Trust”, to either the front or back of the $1 coins “as soon as is practicable”.
I put my trust in fewer and fewer things these days — the United States government hasn't been on the list since I was a child. In God, however, I know my trust is well placed — and when it becomes time to replace the men and women in government who don’t understand that, I know I have a strong ally in my corner.

Jesus Christ: Prophet or God? by Mike Corthell

''This article was inspired by a recent letter to the editor published in The Conway Daily Sun.''
- Mike Corthell

''What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.''
 - William Shakespeare
Sorry, Mr. Shakespeare, not in the matter of God.

The late C. S. Lewis, who was a professor at Cambridge University and once a non-believer, understood this issue clearly.

C.S. Lewis

He writes: "I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -  on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg  - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the son of God: or else a madman or something worse."

Then Lewis adds: "You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

As a Christian I believe that Jesus Christ is God, that He is the son of God. Muslims do not. And they do not claim to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as do Christians. They believe God did not create a Holy contract with Isaac and Jacob, but rather a covenant with Abraham’s firstborn son Ishmael. Muslims further believe that the Christian bible is a misrepresentation of the truth and that the Koran accurately and faithfully represents the true personality and will of God.

'Chrislam' tries to make Allah and the God of Christianity the same Being. Worshipers of Chrislam use both the Bible and the Koran. And view them both as holy texts. During their worship services, verses are read from both books. According to followers, there are no conflicts between the two religions and both texts were accepted by the Chrislam adherents as true. But there are irreconcilable differences between Chrislam's two component religions. The Koran recognizes Jesus as a prophet only – just a man. Christians believe that Jesus, as part of the Holy Trinity, is fully God and not a mortal man as the Koran teaches.

There can be no merging of Islam and Christianity without destroying the foundation of Christianity (and vice versa). From Ephesians 2: ''...you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.''

"First, as I’ve already said, Christians have a fundamentally different view of God than Muslims. We worship Jesus as God. Muslims don’t. Our God is Jesus, not Allah....Colossians 2:9 - 'For in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.'
- Rick Warren

While I believe in my heart that Chrislam is an apostasy at it's worst, a half-truth at best and that it is an abomination in the name of God, I also believe in building bridges between the Christian and Muslim communities as well as other belief systems.

Building bridges does not have anything to do with compromising my Christian beliefs either; it is about my behavior and my attitude toward people – all people. It is about truly loving them. Who cares how much you know about Salvation until they know how much you care about them and their human condition? Before people ask me, ''Is Jesus real, does he speak the truth?', they want to know if I am credible. Before people can put their trust Jesus Christ they must trust me and what I say to them. Enemies cannot be won to Christ, only friends – friends who admire your deportment and the kind of life you lead.

When I put my trust in Christ my problems did not disappear, in fact my life became worse but the way I dealt with adversity changed. I could See and I had a partner, someone to help me, someone all powerful, all knowing and with me all the time. And I knew this; the Light had come into my heart. The light allows us to see as we are seen; from John 3 ''...but whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.''
On becoming a Christian we become perfected in Christ, but we are not perfect. So, should I as Christians hate anyone? No, I should not. Should I ask, ''What would Jesus do?'' Yes, continuously in fact, because I am imperfect and absolutely fallible. Jesus Christ, the Creator of all things, would treat people with dignity and listen to them with respect. Even the best of us have trouble doing this and doing it consistently but we have to keep at it, keep trying – all of us – it is the only Way.

Benjamin Franklin’s Daily Schedule

Mike Corthell

I love this -  It’s Benjamin Franklin’s daily schedule, reflecting his famous quote; ''Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.''

What I like about Dr. Franklin’s daily schedule is it divides the day into thirds. (look closely)
He had only 3 blocks of time scheduled each day:
  • 3 hours for getting ready for his day (shower and breakfast, personal study, and prepare for work)
  • 4 hours for work
  • 2 hours for review of current projects and to eat lunch
  • 4 more hours for work
  • 3 hours for dinner and rest and wrapping up the day
  • 8 hours for sleeping
Dr. Franklin was a Freemason and as an entered apprentice he was taught to measure his time so that, of the twenty-four hours of the day, he might devote eight hours to the service of God and a worthy distressed Brother, eight hours to his usual vocation, and eight hours to refreshment and sleep.

The Good, the Bad and the Checkerboard Square

Mike Corthell, Editor & Publisher

“God is great, and good, and wise. Evil and pain and sorrow are temporary, and for wise and beneficent purposes…Ultimately, Good will prevail, and Evil be overthrown''
- Albert Pike

In the account of King Solomon’s Temple in the Bible, the ground floor is said to be made of pine or fir, depending on which translation of the Bible that you read (1 Kings 6:15). It is hard to imagine that pine or fir flooring would be particularly mosaic in nature. However, it can be agreed that the mosaic pavement represents the ground floor of King Solomon’s Temple in the Entered Apprentice degree because that ceremony symbolically takes place in that location.
While these facts may not be particularly intriguing, the symbolism of the checkered carpeting presents some interesting concepts.
Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry discusses the symbol of the the mosaic pavement

Checkerboard Flooring

So from this information, it can be understood that the concept of duality has played a part in Masonic symbolism since the early days of the fraternity. While duality is not often discussed in the ritual of the Blue Lodge, the Scottish Rite mentions this concept numerous times. The Rite makes the ideas of dualism, or opposition, in the universe an important part of its theme. Indeed, the ideas of the Kabbala and the Alchemists are used in the Scottish Rite to discuss this concept in several of the degrees.2
“The mosaic pavement in an old symbol of the Order. It is met with in the earliest rituals of the last century. It is classed among the ornaments of the lodge along with the indented tessel and the blazing star. Its party-colored stones of black and white have been readily and appropriately interpreted as symbols of the evil and good of human life.”

The lecture pertaining to the 15th Degree, Knight of the East and West, discusses the idea of duality or good and evil as a conflict. Pike writes “God is great, and good, and wise. Evil and pain and sorrow are temporary, and for wise and beneficent purposes…Ultimately, Good will prevail, and Evil be overthrown.”3
But while this idea of duality and the conflict between good and evil are cause for contemplation, it can be confusing to understand how they apply to our actions as Masons.
When thinking about the idea of duality and the concept of good and evil, black and white, sacred and profane, an image that immediately enters my mind is that of the Yin-Yang. While this symbol has become a sort of pop culture icon in recent times, its symbolism is deep and its meaning applicable to this subject. While it has numerous interpretations, the yin-yang demonstrates the concept of duality and balance.

Yin/Yang Symbol - Equal/Opposite: Duality

The synonym balance is an important term because of the position of the checkered carpet: the floor, where the foundation of the erect human body may be found. The Mason is taught to avoid irregularity and intemperance and to divide his time equally by the use of the twenty-four inch gauge. These lessons refer to the importance of balance in a Mason’s life. Therefore, the symbolism of the mosaic pavement could be interpreted to mean that balance provides the foundation for our Masonic growth.
Maintaining balance allows us to adhere to many Masonic teachings. By maintaining balance, we may be able to stand upright in our several stations before God and man. The Entered Apprentice is charged to keep balance in his life so that he may ensure public and private esteem. It is also very interesting that the concept of justice is represented by a scale which is balanced and that justice is described as being the foundation of civil society in the first degree of Masonry.
An Entered Apprentice writes:
“The dualism of these opposites governs us in everything, and experience of it is prescribed for us until such time as, having learned and outgrown its lesson, we are ready for advancement to a condition where we outgrow the sense of this chequer-work existence and those opposites cease to be perceived as opposites, but are realized as a unity or synthesis.” - “The Meaning of Masonry”, chapter 3
I think that the checkered flooring is crucial to the understanding of good and evil, as if one side didn’t exist then the other wouldn't exist. This is why, within some Christian interpretations/denominations, the idea of “good” (i.e. God) created the idea of bad (i.e. fallen angels, such as the Devil). So, it’s not just in eastern philosophy/religion that we see a Yin/Yang type metaphor, but we also see it in Abrahamic faiths (such as Christianity) too.
Therefore going back to the flooring of Freemasonry, it says that in nature there are always going to be ups and downs, 'goods and bads'… and we have to deal with that. We have to keep on working towards that smooth ashlar.

There is a vast variety of symbolism presented to the new initiate in the first degree. It is very easy for the symbol of the mosaic pavement and its several meanings to be lost in the sea of information provided upon our first admission into the lodge. But a deeper look demonstrates that this symbol serves to demonstrate ideals which form the foundation of our individual Masonic growth, the Masonic fraternity, and even the entire human society. Living in balance makes us healthy, happy, and just. If our feet are well balanced, both literally and figuratively, we may be able to serve the purpose of the fraternity faithfully.

God is Your Architect: OBJECT Lesson: Circle & Triangle by Mike Corthell

A geodesic

Short and sweet -

A practical 'object' lesson: Which is strongest – A circle/sphere or a an equilateral triangle/pyramid?

It depends on what the loading is, a sphere will resist uniform pressure better (as in a compressed gas tank or submarine) though a sphere is often not the most convenient or easy to build, so a cylinder (also based on the circle) is more common.

A triangle can resist a point load better (if applied to a vertex) and combinations of triangles (trusses) are very common in construction.

If an engineer combines the two, see Buckminster Fuller...(and Leonardo da Vinci) there you have it. And this exact concept is seen in creation - the bone structure matrix:

Bone structure and function*

*As a side note, an interesting one at that, Calcium the element that most makes up bone matter is classified a METAL...http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_calcium_classified_as_a_metal#page2

A Lucid Explanation of the 'Eternal Now'

Mike Corthell

Below is the clearest explanation I have found so far of the 'eternal now' concept...

This quote from Paul Tillich, comes from his book The Eternal Now, at the end of chapter 11, which deals specifically with the concept of time, and an "eternal now". Here it is:
The mystery of the future and the mystery of the past are united in the mystery of the present. Our time, the time we have, is the time in which we have "presence." But how can we have "presence"? Is not the present moment gone when we think of it? Is not the present the ever-moving boundary line between past and future? But a moving boundary is not a place to stand upon. If nothing were given to us except the "no more" of the past and the "not yet" of the future, we would not have anything. We could not speak of the time that is our time; we would not have "presence."
The mystery is that we have a present; and even more, that we have our future also because we anticipate it in ‘the present; and that we have our past also, because we remember it in the present. In the present our future and our past are ours. But there is no "present" if we think of the never-ending flux of time. The riddle of the present is the deepest of all the riddles of time. Again, there is no answer except from that which comprises all time and lies beyond it -- the eternal. Whenever we say "now" or "today," we stop the flux of time for us. We accept the present and do not care that it is gone in the moment that we accept it. We live in it and it is renewed for us in every new present." This is possible because every moment of time reaches into the eternal. It is the eternal that stops the flux of time for us. It is the eternal "now" which provides for us a temporal "now." We live so long as "it is still today" -- in the words of the letter to the Hebrews. Not everybody, and nobody all the time, is aware of this "eternal now" in the temporal "now." But sometimes it breaks powerfully into our consciousness and gives us the certainty of the eternal, of a dimension of time which cuts into time and gives us our time.
People who are never aware of this dimension lose the possibility of resting in the present. As the letter to the Hebrews describes it, they never enter into the divine rest. They are held by the past and cannot separate themselves from it, or they escape towards the future, unable to rest in the present. They have not entered the eternal rest which stops the flux of time and gives us the blessing of the present. Perhaps this is the most conspicuous characteristic of our period, especially in the western world and particularly in this country. It lacks the courage to accept "presence" because it has lost the dimension of the eternal.
"I am the beginning and the end." This is said to us who live in the bondage of time, who have to face the end, who cannot escape the past, who need a present to stand upon. Each of the modes of time has its peculiar mystery, each of them carries its peculiar anxiety. Each of them drives us to an ultimate question. There is one answer to these questions -- the eternal. There is one power that surpasses the all-consuming power of time -- the eternal: He Who was and is and is to come, the beginning and the end. He gives us forgiveness for what has passed. He gives us courage for what is to come. He gives us rest in His eternal Presence.

I believe  that so-called ‘time’ and ‘space’, which are really one, are no more than media in which all things exist. Life is movement, ceaseless movement and life itself is timeless and space-less. That much is clear. Another thing is clear. Everything is contained within ‘the Now.’ All duration or time is total and complete in 'the Now'.

There is an ‘eternal’ quality about the Now. It is forever new.

The fool says...there is no God

The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
    any who seek God.
 All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
    not even one.
Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on the Lord.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
for God is present in the company of the righteous.

North Korea: Set for Fireworks

South Korean soldiers with K-55 self-propelled Howitzers stage at a military training field in the border city of Paju on Friday, April 5, as tensions continue to mount on the Korean peninsula.Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea is showing signs it could be preparing to carry out a new nuclear test, South Korea's Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae said Monday, according to the semi-official South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Ryoo made the comment in response to a South Korean lawmaker who cited unspecified reports suggesting there had been an increase in activity near the site of the North's three previous underground nuclear tests, Yonhap reported.
The South Korean government had said Sunday that it believesNorth Korea may test a missile about April 10, citing as an indicator Pyongyang's push for workers to leave the Kaesong Industrial Complex by then.
Seoul "is on military readiness posture," South Korea's Blue House spokeswoman Kim Haeng said in a briefing. She said national security chief Kim Jang-soo also based the assessment on North Korea's hint to foreign diplomats in Pyongyang to send personnel out of the country.
The Blue House is the office and residence of South Korea's president, similar to the White House in the United States.

Why Fryeburg Needs an Updated Comprehensive Plan

by Mike Corthell

Everything that we see around us, right now, is the result of change. There is nothing that nature loves more than change.

Fryeburg Maine's comprehensive plan details what has happened to make the town what it is today and what is happening that will change the town in the future. The plan is also a statement by the public of what we like about our town and what we would like the Fryeburg of the future to be.

In the original public survey 82% of the respondents stated that the town can attract new business and create new jobs without harming it's citizen or the natural environment.

The comprehensive plan is both a blueprint and a road map. If it is used as intended it will help us achieve our community goals.

As I see it there are six identifiable issues that need to be addressed:

  • Maintaining Fryeburg's rural character.
  • Preserving it's natural environment.
  • Increasing economic opportunities while maintaining the town's natural beauty.
  • Improving the quality of education.
  • Managing traffic flow and maintenance of roads.
  • Find ways to increase and further develop tourism.

The current plan was developed in 1994 and updated in 1998. It is now outdated.  All towns change over time and it is important that any plan changes also. Real estate and business development can impact the town for good or ill. In short, as the town grows demand for services grows. Sound town planning, much like a solid business plan for a company just makes good sense.

Many people think about starting a business but very few would start one, especially a multi-million dollar business without a well thought-out business plan. Fryeburg's operating budget is in the millions of dollars. Shouldn't our town have a solid, updated business plan too? That is exactly what a comprehensive plan is - a community business plan.

To have an outside firm such as Southern Maine Planners update our Comp Plan would cost approximately $25,000. Right now Fryeburg has $12,000 earmarked toward updating the comprehensive plan. With a good amount of citizen involvement and voluntary committee efforts, much of the $25,000 cost can be reduced. In fact, I believe that we can get the plan revised for the money already allocated - $12,000.

Fryeburg needs an updated comprehensive plan and a new vision for the future. You are invited to be part of developing comprehensive plan that will set our town on the path to greater prosperity and beauty through responsible, measured progress.

Mike Corthell : Hubris for any of us to dare say who goes to heaven

To the editor:

In a recent letter to the editor, Ronald Figuly wrote a short letter in support of traditional marriage. He wrote, ‘’If homosexuals were right this would be the end of the world.’’ That isn’t the point in the debate about gay marriage vs. traditional marriage — who is “right” or the definition of “family” for that matter.
I’ll stop for a moment and tell you who I am and where I’m coming from. I am a conservative, having defected from the liberal camp in the mid-1970s. I am a Republican, although I don’t always vote for the Republican candidate. I vote for the best person for the job. I am a Libertarian. I am a parent and grandparent. But what most defines Mike Corthell is that I am a Christian, born of water and of the Spirit.
So, this debate is about rights, not about who is right. We, in America, are blessed with freedom. What we do with that freedom is up to us and our own conscience. We can do great things or we can do things that our peers consider bad or even evil. We can love or we can hate. We can even act stupid if that is our choice. To be truly free we, do indeed need to be able to choose — for ourselves — just as long as we do not harm another or infringe on their right to exercise their freedom.
In the Old Testament a passage says that homosexuality is a sin (and a whole bunch of other behaviors by the way). In the New Testament God says, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her (an adulteress)’’ and, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged.’’ Do you want to be told what to do – or what not to do?
Live and let live. Let your fellow creatures do so as they wish with no harm done to you. It is with great and extreme hubris that any of us dare say who goes to heaven and who is forever damned and separated from God. Don’t fall into that trap.
One last observation concerning the quote above, ‘’If homosexuals were right this would be the end of the world.’’ While the world isn’t ending, we are very near to the end of the church age. What does that mean to us? It means that God will come and decide what is right, who is right and who goes where. The true translation of “Amen” is “so let it be.”

So, my friends, let it be and let the people be.

At this TIME: 2013 to 2020

Daniel 8:23-25
“And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. His power shall be great— but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints. By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great.Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.” (ESV)
Daniel 11:36-45
“And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his place shall he honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. And he shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whosoever acknowledgeth him he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price. And at the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many. And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. ” (ASV)
Daniel 9:24-27 “Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. “ And after the sixty-two weeks – Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” (NKJV)
Revelation 13:1, 3-18
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” (KJV)
Revelation 19:19-21
“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.” (KJV)

Jerusalem, World Capital

''If you follow just one major news story, make sure it is what is unfolding in this key city.''

Mike Corthell, Editor and Publisher

World events from today to the end of this age are going to revolve around Jerusalem. This city is going to be the very EPICENTER of all major events in the future.
We are living in the very end times. The Bible refers to this period hundreds of times. It also reveals that we are nearing the end of this age, which will culminate in the worst times of violence and suffering EVER on Earth.
Everywhere you look, you see violence and war. Governments are toppling every month, it seems. And yet massive violence continues—even in nature and the weather. Why so much violence?
Jeremiah 33:5 says God has hid His face from Jerusalem. But God also says in Zechariah 1:17 that He “shall yet choose Jerusalem.” When He does, He is going to make this city the capital of the world and ultimately the capital of the entire universe!
To God, Jerusalem is the most important city in the world—by far. If it’s so important to God, shouldn’t it be important to those of us who follow and obey the Bible—whether the Torah or the New Testament?
Today, God has yet to choose Jerusalem. And I want to show you why you NEED to watch Jerusalem right now.
The Hard Lesson From 1967
Outside of its current peril, May 1967 was Israel’s most desperate month. Egypt, Syria and Jordan were preparing to attack and telling the world they were going to destroy Israel. Other Arab nations were allying with them. Finally, on June 5, Israel launched a preemptive strike against the Arab nations and destroyed Egypt’s whole air force.
On June 5, 1967, many people thought Jerusalem was about to die. It miraculously survived.
Now, though, Israel faces an even greater problem than that.
Notice what Charles Krauthammer wrote in the Washington Post: “Forty-five years later in the middle of the night of May 7 and 8, 2012, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shocked his country by bringing the main opposition party, Kadima, into a national unity government. Shocking because just hours earlier the Knesset was expediting a bill to call early elections in September. Why did the high-flying Netanyahu call off elections he was sure to win? Because for Israelis today, it is May 1967″ (May 10).
The Jews know their nation is again in danger of annihilation! Krauthammer went on to say, “The dread is not quite as acute. The mood is not despair, just foreboding. Time is running out, but not quite as fast. War is not four days away, but it looms.”
That might be too optimistic. But his summary assessment is dead-on: “Israelis today face the greatest threat to their existence .…” TODAY, ISRAEL FACES THE GREATEST THREAT TO ITS EXISTENCE AS A NATIONGreater THAN JUNE 1967! The Israelis are again in fear of being wiped off the face of the Earth, as their enemies have again explicitly stated that they will do!
Israelis today face the greatest threat to their existence—“nuclear weapons in the hands of apocalyptic mullahs publicly pledged to Israel’s annihilation—since May ‘67. The world is again telling Israelis to do nothing as it looks for a way out. But if such a way is not found as in ‘67, Israelis know that they will once again have to defend themselves, BY themselves. Such a fateful decision demands a national consensus” (ibid).
This is why Mr. Netanyahu was so urgent to form a unified government. Israel has now drawn together and has most of its political power backing its leader, so if he decides to try to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities, he will have a united nation behind him—just as when it launched the attack in 1967. You need as much unity as you can get to be able to do something so bold, or you risk having your government toppled from within your own country. Such a strong move can’t be dismissed as “just a right-wing effort,” because there is a unity government.
In the last few years, the Jews have given away Gaza, Jericho, Bethlehem and other West Bank areas like Hebron. Hebron is where David ruled for the first seven years of his reign. Jericho is the land where God performed miracles through Joshua. Bethlehem is where Jesus Christ was born.
Gaza is in the vicinity of where Jonah fled from God’s commission and was swallowed by a great fish. In 2005, Israel evacuated 9,000 people from Gaza and withdrew its military. Almost immediately, terrorists came flooding into Gaza from Egypt, and they pose an increasingly deadly threat to Israel.
Mount Sinai, in the Sinai Peninsula, is where God Himself communed with Moses and ancient Israel. It is a place of unparalleled history. Israel won control of that region in 1967, but relinquished it 15 years later. Now that the Egyptians have deposed Hosni Mubarak, they are menacing Israel once again.
If you think about how the Jews are approaching this crisis today, you will realize that it is different. In the past, they thought about the Bible and about God, and looked to Him to a certain degree. Today they still talk about God and the Bible some, but the Bible doesn’t actually guide their lives as it used to. (The same attitude is in the United States and Britain.)
We can fantasize about being righteous and being a good nation ad nauseam, but WE ARE NOT OBEYING WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS. As a result, the miracles of the past have ceased!
Giving land that God gave you, in exchange for peace with anyone, is a grand delusion. The United States and Britain have helped pressure the Jews to give away that land for “peace.” It has never worked. The results have been more war and more violence. Israel’s enemies see that Israel is giving up land because it is weak, and they have contempt for that. They continue to threaten terrorism and war if Israel does not give up more land. Since the Jews won’t turn to the God who gave them miraculous victories in the past, they seem to have no other option.
What Is About to Happen to Jerusalem
Zechariah 12:3 says, “[A]ll that burden themselves with [Jerusalem] shall be cut in pieces.” God says anyone who takes on the responsibility to control His city that He will yet choose is going to be “cut in pieces”!
That is what happens to every government that tries to burden itself with Jerusalem: the United Kingdom, the United States, even the United Nations. God has a particular interest in Jerusalem. He is going to rule the Earth and the entire universe from there. And He warns everyone else not to interfere with His prerogative.
Notice another amazing prophecy about Jerusalem that you need to be aware of. It is in the context of the Day of the Lord, when the Messiah is going to return.
“Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity” (Zechariah 14:1-2).
That’s the same half that the Arabs had until 1967, when the Jews conquered it. It is still inhabited mostly by Arabs. The Bible prophesied not only that the Jews would take East Jerusalem, but also that the Arabs are about to take it back.
In that prophecy, God says He will gather ALL nations against Jerusalem to battle! Why is this all happening in Jerusalem? AFTER HALF OF JERUSALEM FALLS TO THE ARABS, IT WILL BE LIKE DOMINOES FALLING ONE AFTER THE OTHER: ONE BIBLICALLY PROPHESIED EVENT AFTER ANOTHER. This is all going to happen very fast and very violently, so you need to watch Jerusalem.
What Is About to Happen to the World
Notice what happens after half of Jerusalem falls: “Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south” (Zechariah 14:3-4).
Do you really BELIEVE God? These are monumental prophecies in your Bible.
Look at what is happening in Jerusalem! It is the focal point of world events! God prophesied millennia ago that this would happen. And going forward, Jerusalem is going to become even more important. It is about to explode—and catch the world on fire! Then maybe more people will BELIEVE what God says.
Matthew 24:15-16 also prophesy about Jerusalem’s immediate future: “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place [Jerusalem], (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains.” The Bible defines that “abomination of desolation” as armies surrounding Jerusalem (Luke 21:20-22).
These will not be Arab armies. The Bible prophesies that they will be European armies. Daniel 11:40 gives more detail about these armies, which will be led by Germany. It refers to this power as the “king of the north” and prophesies that it will clash with the “king of the south,” which is Iran, the real power in the Middle East. The king of the north is going to win this war.
Notice that verse 41 says, “He shall enter also into the glorious land.” This northern power is going to enter Jerusalem. This is a strong indication that this clash is overcontrol of the Holy City.
The Hebrew shows that when these armies enter the area, it won’t be by force. It appears they will be invited into that glorious land that has been so troubled in the past. The Jews are probably going to invite the Germans and Europe to come into the Holy Land to protect them. They looked to the U.S. and Britain. They looked to land-for-peace deals. Then they look to Germany. They never look to God!
Prophecy reveals the terrifying consequence of their faithlessness: The king of the north is going to commit a tremendous double cross! Once this European power enters that precious Holy Land, it will fill it with a river of blood. That will mark the beginning of World War III.
Verse 45 is a prophecy that this European power will not only fight a war for Jerusalem, but it will move its headquarters there! Why would a European superpower set up a new headquarters in Jerusalem? Because this union is based not only on political power, but also on religious power! It is dominated by one of the three religions that have fought over Jerusalem for centuries.
Verse 44 speaks of ominous “tidings out of the east.” Jerusalem has exploded. Iran and its allies have pushed against the European superpower, and that king of the north has smashed Iran. It has entered into Jerusalem and committed a horrific double cross. World War III is raging. But Russia and China will not be sitting on the sidelines the whole time. They are going to enter into this bloodbath. And they too are going to head for Jerusalem!
Revelation 9:16 prophesies of an army of 200 million soldiers! Who could assemble such a huge army? Only the combined strength of Russia and China, along with their allies. This Asiatic superpower is already beginning to form—and the Bible says it will march against Europe and against Jerusalem!
The Bible specifies that the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers will dry up and these nations will march right into the Middle East. These massive armies will gather to battle at Megiddo—Armageddon (Revelation 16:16). But they’re not going to fight there!
Joel 3:1-2 show that these armies will come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, right at the edge of Jerusalem. ALL THESE END-TIME EVENTS CONTINUE TO REVOLVE AROUND Jerusalem!
The battle in the Valley of Jehoshaphat will be so gory that the blood will be as deep as horses’ bridles for a distance of about 200 miles! (Revelation 14:19-20). God Himself will fight these armies, and He will have to do it that way because it’s the only way He can get their attention! It’s the only way He can make these carnal, bloodthirsty menbelieve Him!
Like so many other crucial events, this great and terrible, final war of the ages will happen right there in Jerusalem.
What Lies Beyond the War
But in spite of all the war, in spite of all the death and horrific suffering, Jerusalem is also a symbol of good newsI will yet choose Jerusalem, God says!
In 1 Kings 11:13, God says He has chosen Jerusalem to be the world capital. He will still make Jerusalem the capital of the world—then the capital of the universe!
God wants you to realize that much of the Bible revolves around Jerusalem. He says if you take heed to this, then He will reward you, and you will be able to rule with Jesus Christ on His throne in Jerusalem—forever!
God promises to put a stop to all the bloodshed in Jerusalem and around the world. He prophesies of a Millennium in which Jesus Christ and His saints will rule the Earth! Then, throughout all eternity, Jerusalem will rule the whole universe! The “very elect” will reside at that headquarters city with Christ forever (Revelation 3:12).
Abraham looked for a city whose foundations were built by God. He saw BEYOND the Millennium to a time when God the Father will bring new Jerusalem down to this Earth and rule the God Family Himself. The Son and His bride will rule under the Father, all right there in Jerusalem.
At that point, everyone will have become spirit beings, and what starts on this Earth, at Jerusalem, will go out to rule and bring life to the universe!
